Want it fast? Tired of using (insert random bit of paper name here) as a bookmark? Tired of losing your (insert important documents/cards here) because you used it as a bookmark? You know who you are! Grab some wire and pliers and let's make this sucker.<br />
<br />
Here's what you need:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-twMK6wahCoU/ToutNP2eZSI/AAAAAAAAAXk/UpwojJCBD3M/s1600/P3009110001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-twMK6wahCoU/ToutNP2eZSI/AAAAAAAAAXk/UpwojJCBD3M/s320/P3009110001.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wire cutters, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, and 18 gauge wire mine is a pretty pacific blue (Thank you, J.T.!), but use whatever makes you happy!</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>If you are using coated wire it would probably be in your best interest to tape your chain nose plier jaws with masking tape before proceeding or you risk marring your wire. I played with fire I got burnt, listen to me people, don't scratch your wire! End disclaimer. Let's begin.<br />
<br />
<br />
Cut a piece of wire approximately 5 inches long and using your fingers bend it in half like this:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-19CXcKcGtLo/ToutNoYapJI/AAAAAAAAAXo/12Hnc5wG9Xc/s1600/P3009110002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-19CXcKcGtLo/ToutNoYapJI/AAAAAAAAAXo/12Hnc5wG9Xc/s320/P3009110002.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Very rounded let's fix that shall we?</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Take your <b>taped</b> (or otherwise coated) chain nose pliers and make the loop more angular like so:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lW_KBHMEU0E/ToutOz6tsGI/AAAAAAAAAXw/g2HBfsg8_KA/s1600/P3009110004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lW_KBHMEU0E/ToutOz6tsGI/AAAAAAAAAXw/g2HBfsg8_KA/s320/P3009110004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now take out your round nose pliers and make small loops on either end like this:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P4MD5ubtE-s/ToutQBRIEaI/AAAAAAAAAX4/WiqJUmnys_M/s1600/P3009110006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P4MD5ubtE-s/ToutQBRIEaI/AAAAAAAAAX4/WiqJUmnys_M/s320/P3009110006.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Right side</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bQZ9IoVxHVY/ToutQtHNPYI/AAAAAAAAAX8/ydzxh7uQpzA/s1600/P3009110007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bQZ9IoVxHVY/ToutQtHNPYI/AAAAAAAAAX8/ydzxh7uQpzA/s320/P3009110007.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Now both. Make sure the loops face the center.</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Now using the <b>taped</b> chain nose pliers roll the loops on each end toward the center, like this:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HyPQqnotoh4/ToutRK-6PeI/AAAAAAAAAYA/JmePp7b6phE/s1600/P3009110009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HyPQqnotoh4/ToutRK-6PeI/AAAAAAAAAYA/JmePp7b6phE/s320/P3009110009.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">No tape equals BAD! Remember!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>When you have rolled both sides in adjust them to make them even and heart-like.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qYZlwRavh5o/ToutRx9P1qI/AAAAAAAAAYE/k2uTL72Ql0U/s1600/P3009110011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qYZlwRavh5o/ToutRx9P1qI/AAAAAAAAAYE/k2uTL72Ql0U/s320/P3009110011.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A little scruffy but still usable.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>You can also make a more open version like this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--5HU4OuK0Dk/ToutTLTEIXI/AAAAAAAAAYM/hCklF34zXeM/s1600/P3009110014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--5HU4OuK0Dk/ToutTLTEIXI/AAAAAAAAAYM/hCklF34zXeM/s320/P3009110014.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Just cut your wire a little longer and start the curl around the end of a pen instead of using the round nosed pliers.<br />
<br />
To use the bookmark angle the swirls up so that the fit over the pages like this:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Vl0fgE9Fho8/ToutSf_rrDI/AAAAAAAAAYI/SwPTol9cU2U/s1600/P3009110013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Vl0fgE9Fho8/ToutSf_rrDI/AAAAAAAAAYI/SwPTol9cU2U/s320/P3009110013.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Front view</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HbC2eWiX_b0/ToutUgB2CrI/AAAAAAAAAYU/5-x7lcD2f_o/s1600/P3009110016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HbC2eWiX_b0/ToutUgB2CrI/AAAAAAAAAYU/5-x7lcD2f_o/s320/P3009110016.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Back View</td></tr>
</tbody></table>And you're finished! Go find a good book! Might I suggest a steampunk novel by George Mann, they're awesome!Knitting Pixiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995027081955472268noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2598886447728779073.post-54161818642968129562011-09-13T15:16:00.000-07:002011-09-13T15:18:06.743-07:00Itty Bitty BunnyIt's been a while since I have posted anything so I thought I would share something I made for my Mimmaw (aka my paternal grandmother) a while back. She absolutely loved it and it was totally worth the hand cramps to see the look on her face when I gave it to her. She is the personification of the phrase, "Grandmas don't just say 'that's nice' - they reel back and roll their eyes and throw up their hands and smile." (<span style="font-family: inherit;">from "To a Very Special Grandmother" by Pam Brown) </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I got the pattern for knitting the bunny <a href="http://littlecottonrabbits.typepad.co.uk/free_knitting_patterns/2008/05/teenie-tinies.html">here</a> and the pattern for the forget-me-not came from the book <u>Crochet Inspiration</u> by Sasha Kagan, the dress was all me. The eyes are french knots and I added a mouth. Oh and I made her a necklace too. I had WAY too much fun with this. Hope you enjoy the cuteness!</span><br />

But you know me, why buy it when you can make one so; I grabbed a box and made my own. Sorry I didn't take pics of this part but basically all I did was trace a cd (trace the small inner circle too) onto the back of a piece of cardboard (thinner is better I realized this later and made my second one out of a cake mix box). I cut it out leaving the center part intact, drew 16 lines across making 32 spokes that met in the middle. Then I cut out the center circle with an exacto knife and made 32 slits (one on each spoke) around the outside with my scissors. If this is unclear I am sure you could find instructions for making one online somewhere. Once you have your braiding disk we are ready for stage 2.<br />
<br />
For your necklace you will need:<br />
<br />
3 metal washers (plus extra for weights, I know, I know you're confused right? It will all make sense in just a few minutes, trust me ;)<br />
<br />
mod podge<br />
<br />
a picture (you should probably just pick something with a nice pattern unless your washers are large, mine were not and after the cutting and gluing you couldn't tell what my picture was but I still liked the results)<br />
<br />
jump rings (appropriate size for your washers, I have no idea what size I used because I made mine.)<br />
<br />
novelty yarn <br />
<br />
worsted weight yarn (I used acrylic. Yes I admit it I have a stash of Red Heart so shoot me who doesn't have at least one skein of it.)<br />
<br />
scissors<br />
<br />
lobster claw clasp<br />
<br />
lighter<br />
<br />
exacto knife<br />
<br />
cutting mat<br />
<br />
pencil<br />
<br />
darning needle<br />
<br />
Got all that, ok lets get started!<br />
<br />
Take out your washers and the picture or patterned paper you want to use. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9-mYXn9hPa8/TjoGKdzYbRI/AAAAAAAAAUI/ifkZNzUQDwg/s1600/P0106110000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9-mYXn9hPa8/TjoGKdzYbRI/AAAAAAAAAUI/ifkZNzUQDwg/s320/P0106110000.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Some vintage pictures I had just kicking around.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Decide what areas you want and center the washers over them and trace and cut them out. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Add the picture and coat the top with more! Repeat with the remaining two washers.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Now it's time to start braiding so grab your disk and your yarn.<br />
<br />
<br />
Cut 4 pieces of yarn, 2 of the novelty and 2 of the regular worsted weight, 3 yards each.<br />
<br />
Fold them in half. Using a small piece of waste yarn tie 3-4 washers to the middle.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_8IyBU6AwJk/TjoGRUqYpkI/AAAAAAAAAU8/fr2t6Ja6iec/s1600/P0106110019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_8IyBU6AwJk/TjoGRUqYpkI/AAAAAAAAAU8/fr2t6Ja6iec/s320/P0106110019.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Place this through the disk<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v9DMDwN_wEM/TjoGSLN7KCI/AAAAAAAAAVA/UyBJAoHGk0I/s1600/P0106110020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v9DMDwN_wEM/TjoGSLN7KCI/AAAAAAAAAVA/UyBJAoHGk0I/s320/P0106110020.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Now divide out the yarn like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OMDvk_UQRJ8/TjoGSp8O6gI/AAAAAAAAAVE/jv8GYC9dhWs/s1600/P0106110021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OMDvk_UQRJ8/TjoGSp8O6gI/AAAAAAAAAVE/jv8GYC9dhWs/s320/P0106110021.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
We are going to make a spiral pattern so all you have to remember is right down, left up, rotate. I forgot to take a picture but this <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RNbFjvZycs">video</a> explains it better than I can anyway. Oh, also I think the video says rotate left but I went right I don't think it makes much difference though. I think my spirals probably go in the opposite direction is all.<br />
<br />
Once your braid is as long as you want your necklace to be, stop and remove it from the disk. This is the way I did it.<br />

<br />
Now for the other side. Remember those washers we used for weights? First thing we need to do is remove those. Leave the yarn in there though for now.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Just untie and remove the washers. Don't forget to leave the yarn.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Now use the yarn to help you find the loop where you started. Insert a jump ring into the loop, add a lobster claw clasp, then close the jump ring. Remove the yarn.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

Here's a refresher of what you will need:<br />
<br />
Onesie (duh!)<br />
<br />
embroidery needle<br />
<br />
embroidery floss (I used light purple, dark purple, gold, and variegated teal plus some extra for basting, color doesn't matter for the extra. Once again I don't know the DMC numbers because it came from that floss fish bowl I mentioned earlier.)<br />
<br />
dryer sheet and coffee filter (I used both but it would probably be better to just use the dryer sheet. I'll explain later.)<br />
<br />
scissors (as always)<br />
<br />
pencil and pen <br />
<br />
design template unless you want to freehand something. I got my template from a book I checked out at the library called <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Anchor-Book-Free-Style-Embroidery-Stitches/dp/0715306294">The Anchor Book of Free-Style Embroidery Stitches</a>.<br />
<br />
<br />
Ok let's get started!<br />
<br />
First take out your dryer sheet and trace the design you want onto it. I traced onto a coffee filter (as you will see in the pictures) and did not attach it to the fabric in any way when I was trying to trace onto the fabric, but I basted a dryer sheet to my onesie to stabilize it. I think if I had traced my template onto the dryer sheet that I used as the stabilizing fabric I could have just stitched on top of the lines instead of trying to transfer the lines to the fabric first. I hope that makes sense, if not just ask and I will try to clarify. In other words trace onto whatever you are using for a stabilizing fabric or as my mom would put it do as I say and not as I do.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cCDmhpSmVao/TgPePoNA7OI/AAAAAAAAATE/xM6QtZrPsz0/s1600/P2405110002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cCDmhpSmVao/TgPePoNA7OI/AAAAAAAAATE/xM6QtZrPsz0/s320/P2405110002.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Lying on the book ready to trace</td></tr>
</tbody></table><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ahD_9xJDEQ4/TgPeQCYS43I/AAAAAAAAATI/btpYuCConi8/s1600/P2405110003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ahD_9xJDEQ4/TgPeQCYS43I/AAAAAAAAATI/btpYuCConi8/s320/P2405110003.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">In pencil</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iDEESd0clpM/TgPeQs3H4oI/AAAAAAAAATM/LI1lNBPncHY/s1600/P2405110004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iDEESd0clpM/TgPeQs3H4oI/AAAAAAAAATM/LI1lNBPncHY/s320/P2405110004.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Now in pen and trimmed to a more manageable size.</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table> At this point I traced my image as best I could onto the fabric which as you will see was not exact but it worked. If you try it with tracing onto the stabilizing fabric let me know how it works out for you. <br />
<br />
Next I turned the onesie wrong side out and basted the dryer sheet piece to it using some extra embroidery floss.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Turned wrong side out and dryer sheet in place.</td></tr>

BONUS MATERIAL!!!!! <br />
<br />
<br />
Just for kicks here's a printed onesie I dolled up as well. I tatted my niece's name using letter patterns from a booklet given to me by a most lovely person and wonderful friend (Along with a ginormous bunch of other crafting stuff including the pearl cotton I used to tat the letters. Thanks, Nicole!!). I love this booklet so much that I have forbidden anyone with unclean hands to touch it, why you may ask, well I'll tell you. The name of the booklet is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tatted-Crocheted-Designs-Star-Book/dp/B000TEACXC/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header">Tatted and Crocheted Designs Star Book 30</a> and it's copyright date is 1944! So if you hurt it, you DIE! It's just that simple. I love every pattern in this booklet! If you ever see one in your vicinity and you like to tat or crochet you MUST get it! Well enough about the booklet ( I Love this Booklet! Sorry just had to say it one more time!) here's the pic:<br />

This started out as a good idea but quickly turned to ick. </tbody></table>At this point I peeled off the paper to admire my work and was proud of how it had turned out, too bad I didn't take a pic of it then. I waited until it came out of the washer which had unfortunately did this to it:<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</td></tr>
</tbody></table>The moral of the story boys and girls, always read the instructions. My crayons were apparently supposed to only be used on cotton/poly blends NOT 100% cotton. So what's a girl too do? I'll tell you. I took out my trusty fabric MARKERS (which work great on 100% cotton btw) and went over the faint mess that was left and saved the whole works. Which unfortunately you will only be able to see a small pic of in the last installment because I seemed to have inadvertently deleted the finished picture of this one. Sorry! <br />
<br />
So stay tuned to see how it all turns out.Knitting Pixiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995027081955472268noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2598886447728779073.post-20989991233171435492011-06-13T16:39:00.000-07:002011-06-13T16:52:53.251-07:00Onesies for My Niece Part 3This next one is super duper easy peasy. All you need is a onesie, crochet hook (I used a size G), some worsted weight yarn, and a needle with thread to match the yarn.<br />
<br />
I started out intending to make a doily like the cute onesies I saw on <a href="http://dollarstorecrafts.com/2009/02/doily-onesie/">Dollar Store Crafts </a>but the doily pattern I picked turned out to be a little too large and unfortunately I did not realize this until too late. So I wracked my brain thinking what else could I sew on this little booger. I didn't want to make another doily that would take too long. (I wanted to hand deliver the onesies to Arizona where my sister-in-law lives and the plane hubs and I were taking left the next morning.) I didn't want to do another flower so I thought why not a little heart after all how can you not think of hearts with a face like this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N0tIFvDdecg/TfadDLEBykI/AAAAAAAAARo/8QmwUyFdsUw/s1600/P1006110013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N0tIFvDdecg/TfadDLEBykI/AAAAAAAAARo/8QmwUyFdsUw/s320/P1006110013.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Ok so there are pretty much only three steps to this one.<br />
<br />
Step 1: Crochet Heart (I used this <a href="http://www.planetjune.com/blog/free-crochet-patterns/love-hearts/">pattern</a> and made heart C.)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L3x1ZP_iaEQ/TfadNDklozI/AAAAAAAAARs/J2eSXXv5Sm4/s1600/P0706110004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L3x1ZP_iaEQ/TfadNDklozI/AAAAAAAAARs/J2eSXXv5Sm4/s320/P0706110004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Step 2: Sew Heart to onesie using matching thread.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Hkv2QJDjQU/TfadOCoC0-I/AAAAAAAAAR0/VVE9tfv-e20/s1600/P0706110006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Hkv2QJDjQU/TfadOCoC0-I/AAAAAAAAAR0/VVE9tfv-e20/s320/P0706110006.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Step 3: Admire your handy work!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

You are about to find out how my strange little brain works.<br />
<br />
First let me tell you the extras you will need.<br />
<br />
<br />
plastic bowl or tub (I used a margarine bowl)<br />
<br />
vinegar and a big pinch of salt (Yes, I am weird! Thank you for noticing! But it leads to a great side story! It was pretty late at night when I started my dye process and I vaguely remembered a conversation I once had with my Mimmaw, thats what I call my dad's mom, about dying fabric. I remembered asking her what went wrong when a natural dye I had used washed out completely on the first wash. She asked what I had used as a fixative. I said, "What's that?" so she explained it to me and told me what to use. Back to present It's about 11:30 at night and I am trying to remember what she told me to use, was it vinegar or salt? I couldn't remember and although my Mim stays up pretty late I was afraid to call her and scare her just to ask a silly question so what the heck toss 'em both in couldn't hurt, right?)<br />
<br />
2 cups of hot water<br />
<br />
A little faith, ok alot we are using Kool Aid after all<br />
<br />
First a note on the Kool Aid flavor. I used cherry I was aiming for pink but use whatever flavor will give you the color you desire, just remember it will turn out to be very, VERY light in color when all is said and done.<br />
<br />
Ok we're ready. Take your plastic container and mix the Kool Aid, hot water, splash of vinegar, and big pinch of salt together in it.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6i343K6fdsg/TfTUogozEUI/AAAAAAAAAQo/UH2KaVklN8Y/s1600/P1705110028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6i343K6fdsg/TfTUogozEUI/AAAAAAAAAQo/UH2KaVklN8Y/s320/P1705110028.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Looks Really RED, right? Don't worry just trust me! Like I said you need faith.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Submerge your onesie, the best you can and let sit over night. It is ok that not all of the onesie is covered it will give it a cool wave effect, kind of like on a dip dye fabric. You do however need to make sure the whole thing is saturated with the Kool Aid mix. If you use your hands to do this you may want to put on gloves. I tell you this because I didn't and you can guess what my hands looked like, that's right red!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Remember Faith!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Now let it sit this way for at least 8 hours or overnight. I tried less time and it just washed out completely. If you have any tweaks that work for you please let me know! I'd love to hear them!<br />
<br />
After it has sat in the dye bath remove, wring out excess liquid (with gloves, wink wink) and let it air dry. I was planning on putting it in the dryer but I was afraid it might dye the inside of the dryer and since I rent I don't think my landlord would appreciate it even though she is a very cool lady.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">All dry!</td></tr>

Now toss in the washer! I washed it with cold water on the longest wash setting.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ready for the next step.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
Ok from the first list of materials grab:<br />
<br />
embroidery floss (I used hot pink and lime green, I am not really sure of the DMC numbers since most of my embroidery floss came in a fish bowl I bought at a yard sale, he, he.)<br />
<br />
Crochet Hook (Once again I think I used a size 0 but you use whatever gives you the size object you want.)<br />
<br />
Scissors<br />
<br />
Black Fabric Marker<br />
<br />
Cardboard Scrap <br />
<br />
Needle with a fairly large eye<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Place the cardboard scrap inside the onesie as before positioning it all the way up so it covers the neck and chest area (see above pic).<br />
<br />
Take the fabric marker and begin making dots in an arc around the neck hole. You are essentially drawing a necklace. If you need help with placement take a piece of string and position it to use as a guide for where to put your dots, see below.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oQGySMx_5fA/TfT-AUvWKwI/AAAAAAAAARQ/2q5OTYXjcQo/s1600/P2605110004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oQGySMx_5fA/TfT-AUvWKwI/AAAAAAAAARQ/2q5OTYXjcQo/s320/P2605110004.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">String guide line.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jKfBJtekbIc/TfTX69Kj4VI/AAAAAAAAAQ8/Sn7jOs9lVFo/s1600/P2605110010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jKfBJtekbIc/TfTX69Kj4VI/AAAAAAAAAQ8/Sn7jOs9lVFo/s320/P2605110010.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Long necklace.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Now take out your embroidery floss, crochet hook, and flower pattern of your choice. I used a forget-me-not pattern I got out of the book <u>Crochet Inspiration</u> by Sasha Kagan. If you want the pattern I will be glad to send it to you but if you have the chance to get the book it is great! I checked it out at the library and I liked it so much I may just buy a copy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X54hT2hney8/TfTX7yk5t6I/AAAAAAAAARE/4s0gXzJcajI/s1600/P2605110015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X54hT2hney8/TfTX7yk5t6I/AAAAAAAAARE/4s0gXzJcajI/s320/P2605110015.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Crochet the flower leaving a long tail, you will be using this to attach the flower to the onesie. Stitch the flower off center to the dot necklace using the large eyed needle.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jtGSc7-2mB0/TfTX7WEjevI/AAAAAAAAARA/ItHg4QYjrHw/s1600/P2605110013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jtGSc7-2mB0/TfTX7WEjevI/AAAAAAAAARA/ItHg4QYjrHw/s320/P2605110013.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Almost Finished!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>After I got my flower sewed on I decided it needed a little something extra so I added a shorter necklace just above the first one and Ta Da we're done!<br />
<br />

Part 1My sister-in-law just had a baby so I have a brand spanking new baby niece and she is so freaking, smush her cheeks adorable!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I love my blankie and it's not just because Auntie Sarita knit it for me, although that does help!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And do you think I would send her just a plain old pack of white onesies? If you said yes then Shame on You! We will discuss your punishment later for now just sit back and watch what I'm going to do!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
These ideas are mostly for inspiration more than anything else so I may leave out a detail or two here and there. (Psst also there are some boo boos along the way. Hey even a self proclaimed craft queen is allowed to make a mistake now and then and if I tell you about it maybe you can help me fix it or maybe I can prevent an epic craft fail from befalling you.) If you need some clarity just ask otherwise just be inspired to do your own awesome thing!<br />
<br />
Things you will need:<br />
<br />
<b>(This is for all the onesies but I will give the instructions over several posts.) </b><br />
<br />
5 pack of 100% cotton onesies in the size of your choice (I have newborn b/c well my niece is brand spanking new, literally, she is not even a month old yet!)<br />
<br />
fabric markers (I also used fabric crayons but it was not a good idea you'll see why later.)<br />
<br />
<br />
Cardboard to keep the markers from bleeding through (You could also use some scrap paper, just know that you will need more than one layer of paper and it probably shouldn't have any thing on it i.e. ink or crayon. I had no trouble with my scrap cardboard's printing, though.)<br />
<br />
Kool Aid (Yes I said Kool Aid, and don't look at me like that. I know it is not really a dye on cotton it is more of a stain but hey its kid safe. Besides, more than likely the baby will not be in that size of onesie long enough for the stain to get washed out. That's my theory any way.)<br />
<br />
Some images of your choice (I used a Hello Kitty coloring page, drew a cartoonie looking rainbow, and used a pattern from an embroidery book.)<br />
<br />
Crochet hook (I think I used a size zero, but you can use whatever gets you the size object you want.)<br />
<br />
Embroidery Floss in colors of your choice<br />
<br />
Embroidery Needle <br />
<br />
Dryer Sheet and/or Coffee filter<br />
<br />
Scissors (When do you not need scissors!?!) <br />
<br />
Imagination, time, and whatever else it takes to get the job done.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Ready? Ok lets get started!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
First wash all your onesies and dry them No Fabric Softener Please!<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W8tbutGgh9c/TelhY432fhI/AAAAAAAAAOM/WvGrJ66F6Sw/s1600/P1705110000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W8tbutGgh9c/TelhY432fhI/AAAAAAAAAOM/WvGrJ66F6Sw/s320/P1705110000.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ahhh a nice clean canvas!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Lets start with the Hello Kitty Onesie, shall we.<br />
<br />
I did a google search for Hello Kitty Coloring pages and came up with this beauty.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZqKMmIPBWWw/TelhsIgxfnI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/O6D1ENp409c/s1600/P1705110001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZqKMmIPBWWw/TelhsIgxfnI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/O6D1ENp409c/s320/P1705110001.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sorry I already trimmed it I guess I was a little excited!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<br />
Next trim off the whiskers. You can get rid of these we won't need them any more since you can see from Hello Kitty's face where the whiskers should radiate from.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zzna98s7Sb0/Telhs_XKToI/AAAAAAAAAOY/OqhPkgsQFSc/s1600/P1705110003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zzna98s7Sb0/Telhs_XKToI/AAAAAAAAAOY/OqhPkgsQFSc/s320/P1705110003.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sorry Hello Kitty!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
Now take a piece of cardboard and place it inside the onesie like this:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mZqWByuZ85I/TelhulXitwI/AAAAAAAAAOk/SqWGug2Ct1A/s1600/P1705110006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mZqWByuZ85I/TelhulXitwI/AAAAAAAAAOk/SqWGug2Ct1A/s320/P1705110006.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">There goes the cardboard.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<br />
Make sure it completely covers the area where you will be drawing. Then take out your fabric markers.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ORoiAOPnlVA/TelhsYQhlLI/AAAAAAAAAOU/3s9cVCUGxRg/s1600/P1705110002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ORoiAOPnlVA/TelhsYQhlLI/AAAAAAAAAOU/3s9cVCUGxRg/s320/P1705110002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Place the image onto the onesie where you want it. Adjust until you like the look.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I like it here.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ip675Hl7ZgI/TemfNgJZOVI/AAAAAAAAAO0/RpGq-Ys6VTM/s1600/P1705110010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ip675Hl7ZgI/TemfNgJZOVI/AAAAAAAAAO0/RpGq-Ys6VTM/s320/P1705110010.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Close up!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Out line carefully and quickly.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GzPsNQw8AFI/TemfOWAZRxI/AAAAAAAAAO4/KO8mEELis3g/s1600/P1705110011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GzPsNQw8AFI/TemfOWAZRxI/AAAAAAAAAO4/KO8mEELis3g/s320/P1705110011.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mine bled a little if you draw more quickly maybe this won't happen to you.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Now place the image behind the fabric making sure to center it in your outline.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mgA4au4dtNk/TemfOzlGORI/AAAAAAAAAO8/mwxd0z_KBCc/s1600/P1705110012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mgA4au4dtNk/TemfOzlGORI/AAAAAAAAAO8/mwxd0z_KBCc/s320/P1705110012.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">You can just barely see the lines. You may want to do this step under a lamp or in front of a window.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Carefully and quickly go over the lines.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wx0kDUHKZ-k/TemfPi6HDOI/AAAAAAAAAPA/RQKODKAOg6k/s1600/P1705110013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wx0kDUHKZ-k/TemfPi6HDOI/AAAAAAAAAPA/RQKODKAOg6k/s320/P1705110013.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Better, not as much bleeding this time.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
Now its coloring time. I chose purple. I know Hello Kitty is usually pink but I don't really care for pink and hey who says Hello Kitty always has to wear pink.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-z1l0zKeKGjk/Temh01DD3dI/AAAAAAAAAPY/SEvoGkwOuAs/s1600/P1705110016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-z1l0zKeKGjk/Temh01DD3dI/AAAAAAAAAPY/SEvoGkwOuAs/s320/P1705110016.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />

<br />
Now take out your image again and place it over your colored in Hello Kitty and use the lines on the face to help you see where to put the whiskers.<br />
<br />

</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The other day I was paging through a craft magazine at my local Library (also my employer, shhhh! don't tell, I was reading on the job) when I came across an elaborately embroidered greeting card. Very nice, I thought but nothing new. I have been embroidering on paper for years. Upon further inspection, however, I realized all those intricate stitches were actually ink! Whoa! Maybe you've seen it before but pen-broidery is completely new to me. I had to try it. The only problem was the card materials listed a set of "<a href="http://www.sakuraofamerica.com/Pen-Archival">special pens</a>." Special pens! Bah! We don't need no stinkin' special pens! Here we go!</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">What you need:</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s2BPuX0mKMg/Tca5_PIbpKI/AAAAAAAAAM8/0zWgBnwuOHc/s1600/P0405110001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s2BPuX0mKMg/Tca5_PIbpKI/AAAAAAAAAM8/0zWgBnwuOHc/s320/P0405110001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Crayons (That's right I said Crayons! I LOVE Crayons! But if you want to use colored pencils because they make you feel more grown up, whatever, I'll be on the swing-set if you need me.)</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Fine Felt Tip Pen - I used a Sharpie Pen. (Yes, I said pen. No, I didn't mean marker. Why? Because I said so that's why. JK, it's because the marker might bleed through. This is ok if you are doing a wall hanging but, soooo not cool for a greeting card.)</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Card-stock (I used white, but you can use whatever glitters your critter.)</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">scissors (If your card stock is not already the size you want it.) <i>Not Pictured</i></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">other embellishments as desired (I couldn't get away from that whole paper piercing thing so I needed embroidery floss, an embroidery needle, a pin, a shell button and some thread snips) <i>Thread Snips and Pin not pictured</i></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><i> </i></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><i> </i></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">First You will need to determine placement for your flower center and poke holes if you using a button. Like so:<br />
<br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MmZDkkgtGkY/Tcn3-tbkR3I/AAAAAAAAAOI/le1rFOr6QCQ/s1600/P0405110002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MmZDkkgtGkY/Tcn3-tbkR3I/AAAAAAAAAOI/le1rFOr6QCQ/s320/P0405110002.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> Next thread your needle and put the thread through the holes so that the tails are coming out of the front of your card. Like this:</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m6uEcW_dbUM/Tca7MpOm3KI/AAAAAAAAANE/QZhWFY83tz4/s1600/P0405110005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m6uEcW_dbUM/Tca7MpOm3KI/AAAAAAAAANE/QZhWFY83tz4/s320/P0405110005.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> Now tie the tails in a square knot and snip the ends nice and short but not too short we don't want the knot to come undone.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-04RHJq0voVQ/Tca7e4X-fYI/AAAAAAAAANI/-TTwl1hWmn8/s1600/P0405110007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-04RHJq0voVQ/Tca7e4X-fYI/AAAAAAAAANI/-TTwl1hWmn8/s320/P0405110007.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Now we are ready to begin our flower. I chose to do running stitch circles for my flower. Here's how you do it. Take a crayon (I used orchid for my color) and make small lines around your button or whatever you used for a center. Like this:</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rm_65Mng2mk/Tca90h9lYoI/AAAAAAAAANM/q8n2r5vbm3U/s1600/P0405110009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rm_65Mng2mk/Tca90h9lYoI/AAAAAAAAANM/q8n2r5vbm3U/s320/P0405110009.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Continue making circles around your center until you are happy with your flower size.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HGkt8MrIdbk/Tca91HQ58BI/AAAAAAAAANQ/3bz57oMu-gY/s1600/P0405110011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HGkt8MrIdbk/Tca91HQ58BI/AAAAAAAAANQ/3bz57oMu-gY/s320/P0405110011.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Now that you have your flower large enough time to make those crayon marks look more like stitches, to do this take your felt tip pen and carefully draw little loops around each crayon mark. Like so:</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Xl3JEbQCZ0/Tca91sjUvLI/AAAAAAAAANU/QrNv5zRKWJk/s1600/P0405110012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Xl3JEbQCZ0/Tca91sjUvLI/AAAAAAAAANU/QrNv5zRKWJk/s320/P0405110012.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Make sure to round the ends rather than squaring them so it will look more like thread.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iKhkwCZyOqQ/Tca92ClCBYI/AAAAAAAAANY/EryrGx_i-wY/s1600/P0405110017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iKhkwCZyOqQ/Tca92ClCBYI/AAAAAAAAANY/EryrGx_i-wY/s320/P0405110017.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Close up shot. Even when I draw stitches they aren't even, Oh Well!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Now we need a stem. So grab another crayon (mine is green apple) and make, guess what? A stem stitch! Which is basically diagonal lines use to make a straight line.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LcmH6Glx-Kk/Tca92jE7OyI/AAAAAAAAANc/HG2ZAaYUqgY/s1600/P0405110020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LcmH6Glx-Kk/Tca92jE7OyI/AAAAAAAAANc/HG2ZAaYUqgY/s320/P0405110020.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sorry a little fuzzy.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Continue making these lines until your stem is as long as you want it. Mine ended up being a little slanted but I liked it so Happy Mistake. Make yours straighter if you like.</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QQxa9xpOBuQ/Tca93EIydRI/AAAAAAAAANg/orfXdh7c2cA/s1600/P0405110021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QQxa9xpOBuQ/Tca93EIydRI/AAAAAAAAANg/orfXdh7c2cA/s320/P0405110021.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Now make little loops around your stem "stitches" so they will stand out. Like this:</div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kSsrro43Gqc/Tca93pUwN1I/AAAAAAAAANk/H-BJxsQfRjw/s1600/P0405110022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kSsrro43Gqc/Tca93pUwN1I/AAAAAAAAANk/H-BJxsQfRjw/s320/P0405110022.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
<br />
Now all we need is a nice leaf like this:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WxQQYRXD2no/Tcn17APRcWI/AAAAAAAAAN4/iob70hj54II/s1600/P0405110023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WxQQYRXD2no/Tcn17APRcWI/AAAAAAAAAN4/iob70hj54II/s320/P0405110023.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is a lazy daisy stitch which I think it makes a nice leaf.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
Last step, all you have to do is out line your stitches. Start with the little stitch at the tip of your leaf.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_S4VGiFjunk/Tcn2ALcFwVI/AAAAAAAAAN8/8YYFDG4BaYY/s1600/P0405110024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_S4VGiFjunk/Tcn2ALcFwVI/AAAAAAAAAN8/8YYFDG4BaYY/s320/P0405110024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Now the rest of the leaf.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OeDM-5O4E7M/Tcn2AjUUZ6I/AAAAAAAAAOA/lZNUgn4yJJI/s1600/P0405110025.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OeDM-5O4E7M/Tcn2AjUUZ6I/AAAAAAAAAOA/lZNUgn4yJJI/s320/P0405110025.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Now stand back and admire your handy work!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GM768mTRqVM/Tcn2A4NPJfI/AAAAAAAAAOE/qfXS_s6kLQM/s1600/P0405110027.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GM768mTRqVM/Tcn2A4NPJfI/AAAAAAAAAOE/qfXS_s6kLQM/s320/P0405110027.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

So go grab a roll or two and lets get started!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here's what you need:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now we need to make straps. Grab that jean leg again and snip and rip two strips (one for each flip-flop) about an inch wide and around a foot long. Like these:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NEeuV2MCLhw/TZ5RT5SeHaI/AAAAAAAAAJs/EaWcmB5GGJ4/s1600/P2203110026.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NEeuV2MCLhw/TZ5RT5SeHaI/AAAAAAAAAJs/EaWcmB5GGJ4/s320/P2203110026.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now take one of these and snip and rip down the center of the strap leaving about and inch attached at one end. It should look like this:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i9TSxNujvOM/TZ5RUfsWYyI/AAAAAAAAAJw/WBWqiljkseA/s1600/P2203110027.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i9TSxNujvOM/TZ5RUfsWYyI/AAAAAAAAAJw/WBWqiljkseA/s320/P2203110027.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now we need to mark the sole for strap placement. I used a pen so you could see the marks but you should probably use the pencil so it won't stay forever. Make one mark between your first two toes and one on each side of your foot about 2/3 of the way back from your toes or you can use a pair of flip-flops that fit you well to determine placement. Like so:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0sjugGCANgs/Tazw0FYE0RI/AAAAAAAAALY/kl9p-Jg5GUI/s1600/P2203110030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0sjugGCANgs/Tazw0FYE0RI/AAAAAAAAALY/kl9p-Jg5GUI/s320/P2203110030.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When you have your places marked you will need to carefully cut a slit at each mark with your exacto knife.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

My cookie is no where near as pretty as their example camels but may be I have a chance. What do you think?<br />

<br />
It's spring! Time for flowers, warmer weather, sunny days, and ....<br />
Cleaning Yuck! But I have something for you to make all that cleaning a little brighter and you can feel good about making it because you're recycling.<br />
Sound good?<br />
Ok let's get started!<br />
<br />
You will need: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Worsted weight cotton yarn (Iused white but in hindsight I realize colored would probably have been better since after a few uses my scrubbie looks a little yucky especially the one I used on the bathtub)<br />
<br />
mesh produce bag(s) (yes, you read that correctly. I was inspired by this <a href="http://mrsgreene.info/2010/12/crochet-pattern-reversible-dish-scrubber-using-recycled-mesh-produce-bags/">dish scrubber</a> made by Mrs. Greene)<br />
<br />
<br />
G and I crochet hooks<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We will start by making the base.<br />
<br />
It is important to remember that you will ALWAYS be working into the back loop This is what will create the ridge into which you will be working your mesh scrubber ridges. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.<br />
<br />
With the I Hook:<br />
Magic Ring (if you don't know how to do this you can simply ch 2 then work the first round into the second chain)<br />
Round 1: 6 sc<br />
Round 2: 2 sc into each sc of previous round <br />
Round 3: 1 sc, 2 sc in next<br />
Round 4: 2 sc, 2 sc in next <br />
<br />
Continue in this manner until you have a round piece that is large as you want. I stopped after a 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, row.<br />
When you get to the end of your last increase round work one plain round of sc in each back loop until you get back to your stitch marker.<br />
Slip stitch into that first sc then chain 20, slip stitch back to the base. This will create a loop you can use to hang your scrubbie up with. Weave in ends.<br />
<br />
Your piece should look like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vconNrkhOxQ/TYfSkjLdFDI/AAAAAAAAADM/CFIGBw8M1kQ/s1600/D+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vconNrkhOxQ/TYfSkjLdFDI/AAAAAAAAADM/CFIGBw8M1kQ/s320/D+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Sorry I didn't take pictures of the base in progress but hopefully the instructions along with the picture of the completed base will be enough.<br />
<br />
Lay this piece aside.<br />
<br />
Now we will prepare our mesh produce bag for its new life as a scrubbie.<br />
Taking a pair of scissors you will need to cut your bag into one long strip.<br />
<br />
Like so:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-iA0Tm5HKb3E/TYfSgb7_E1I/AAAAAAAAADI/veoEmppsBvs/s1600/C+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-iA0Tm5HKb3E/TYfSgb7_E1I/AAAAAAAAADI/veoEmppsBvs/s320/C+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If your bag is round you can just make one long spiral. Rolling it into a ball as you go. If you had to cut it into flat pieces to remove labels as I did you will need to cut in a zig zag fashion. Don't worry if you don't get one continuous piece any parts that break can just be tied together. Knots=Extra Scrubbie Power.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now back to the base. Remember how I told you to only crochet in the back loops here's why. You now have a piece that looks like this up close:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-70xf2LklmqQ/TYfSpVi3SpI/AAAAAAAAADQ/Ul70yqbzlC8/s1600/E+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-70xf2LklmqQ/TYfSpVi3SpI/AAAAAAAAADQ/Ul70yqbzlC8/s320/E+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I crochet left handed, if you are a right handed crocheter then your spiral will be going in the opposite direction.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>See all those lovely little bumps sticking up forming a spiral? Thats where we are going to attach the mesh. Using the G hook and starting at the center insert your hook like so:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-cHlGg-yQ8gU/TYfSsxl2JfI/AAAAAAAAADU/lXABDOssR2U/s1600/F+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-cHlGg-yQ8gU/TYfSsxl2JfI/AAAAAAAAADU/lXABDOssR2U/s320/F+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sorry once again I'm a lefty Crocheter. For you righties just imagine it flipped ;)</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
Now attach the mesh by pulling it through and making a slip stitch like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-OkyHvEYStyo/TYfSx1h1QkI/AAAAAAAAADY/rJCo0oCGwVI/s1600/G+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-OkyHvEYStyo/TYfSx1h1QkI/AAAAAAAAADY/rJCo0oCGwVI/s320/G+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Tie a knot with the two ends and cut your short end leaving a small tail. Don't worry as long as your knot is secure this puppy's not going anywhere.<br />
<br />
<br />
Now begin working in spiral making one single crochet in each bump with the mesh. It should look like this:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-nWn9LZWS_Zc/TYfSyH6-0YI/AAAAAAAAADc/YxD_1bfaKdU/s1600/H+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-nWn9LZWS_Zc/TYfSyH6-0YI/AAAAAAAAADc/YxD_1bfaKdU/s320/H+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Righties remember yours will be going in the opposite direction.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
Continue in this manner until you get to end of the inside spiral. You should be just below your hanger. Like this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-twVov7yc9tE/TYfSz8w932I/AAAAAAAAADs/Hnn_8QyYhow/s1600/L+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-twVov7yc9tE/TYfSz8w932I/AAAAAAAAADs/Hnn_8QyYhow/s320/L+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Now pull up a big loop and remove your hook.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4zbXc6oDiv8/TYfS0cnfZoI/AAAAAAAAADw/5C_8KXtCvkQ/s1600/M+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4zbXc6oDiv8/TYfS0cnfZoI/AAAAAAAAADw/5C_8KXtCvkQ/s320/M+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Cut your mesh and pull the end through to tie off:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-oAg0UUZF98k/TYfS090rtKI/AAAAAAAAAD0/9Am4qCHnh2k/s1600/N+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-oAg0UUZF98k/TYfS090rtKI/AAAAAAAAAD0/9Am4qCHnh2k/s320/N+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Cut this piece as you did before leaving a small tail.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8pwbyKueU6w/TYfS3tjmXsI/AAAAAAAAAEA/qIAyPvme00k/s1600/Q+scrubbie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8pwbyKueU6w/TYfS3tjmXsI/AAAAAAAAAEA/qIAyPvme00k/s320/Q+scrubbie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
And You're done! Congratulations you now have a new cleaning tool which is not only great for dishes but also does a darn good job on bathtubs.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Happy Scrubbing!</div>Knitting Pixiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995027081955472268noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2598886447728779073.post-44528326553331355712010-12-20T13:56:00.000-08:002011-05-15T20:53:51.599-07:00Last Minute Snowflake Ornament<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Looking for a inexpensive last minute ornament to make or maybe you just need something to occupy the kiddies for a little while. I've got the perfect thing and most of the stuff you probably already have on hand. Ready? Ok here goes:</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Supplies: </span><br />
24 Clear or colored light bulbs from a string of Christmas lights<br />
white school glue<br />
clear protective disk (they come in a pack of cd-r's or dvd-r's) or an unwanted cd<br />
scrap paper<br />
pen or pencil<br />
scissors<br />
hot glue gun<br />
small length of ribbon for hanger<br />
<br />
When you remove your light bulbs from the string they will have a green or white cap on the bottom like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ7gOrYcwZI/AAAAAAAAAAg/YnN4a7LoY7E/s1600/a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ7gOrYcwZI/AAAAAAAAAAg/YnN4a7LoY7E/s320/a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ7gfDG9olI/AAAAAAAAAAk/gDdSUgTVYT0/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br />
</a></div>First (and you probably want to do the next two steps before you hand it over to the kiddies if they're little ones.) remove the green caps from the bottom of your light bulbs. So that they look like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ7gfDG9olI/AAAAAAAAAAk/gDdSUgTVYT0/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ7gfDG9olI/AAAAAAAAAAk/gDdSUgTVYT0/s320/b.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now you will need to remove the wires coming from the bottom of all the bulbs:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ7gjPui1DI/AAAAAAAAAAo/J9nJF5JizpI/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ7gjPui1DI/AAAAAAAAAAo/J9nJF5JizpI/s320/c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Now all your bulbs should look like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ7hViRdyiI/AAAAAAAAAAs/iEJcL-IRkc0/s1600/d.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ7hViRdyiI/AAAAAAAAAAs/iEJcL-IRkc0/s320/d.jpg" width="320" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now take out your clear disk (or cd):</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FNXRD3AI/AAAAAAAAAAw/50gJLoL-CZA/s1600/e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FNXRD3AI/AAAAAAAAAAw/50gJLoL-CZA/s320/e.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Trace and cut out a circle from your scrap paper using the disk as a template: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FRf7hoTI/AAAAAAAAAA0/J6dIxx9HlM0/s1600/f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FRf7hoTI/AAAAAAAAAA0/J6dIxx9HlM0/s320/f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now you need to divide the paper circle into 6 sections so first fold it in half:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FVVOA6LI/AAAAAAAAAA4/UyuR7cNLlvg/s1600/g.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FVVOA6LI/AAAAAAAAAA4/UyuR7cNLlvg/s320/g.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Then into thirds as follows:</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FYxXT1NI/AAAAAAAAAA8/8K0AeQVN3SQ/s1600/h.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FYxXT1NI/AAAAAAAAAA8/8K0AeQVN3SQ/s320/h.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FcqvcPOI/AAAAAAAAABA/nYfDLLpiX7o/s1600/i.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FcqvcPOI/AAAAAAAAABA/nYfDLLpiX7o/s320/i.jpg" width="320" /> </a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">Now unfold the paper circle and draw lines on the folds like so:</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FgFrkGNI/AAAAAAAAABE/ovqgsvMBges/s1600/j.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FgFrkGNI/AAAAAAAAABE/ovqgsvMBges/s320/j.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">Place the piece of paper BEHIND the disk:</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FjuSwVbI/AAAAAAAAABI/4npgPJqyZ_k/s1600/k.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FjuSwVbI/AAAAAAAAABI/4npgPJqyZ_k/s320/k.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Put glue on the disk using the lines as guides. Do not put glue on the center circle. If you are using a cd you will only see a small segment of each line at the center just draw with the glue out from there.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Now your disk should look like this:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FnJgFISI/AAAAAAAAABM/ApEEtHfoIvY/s1600/l.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FnJgFISI/AAAAAAAAABM/ApEEtHfoIvY/s320/l.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;"></div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Place two light bulbs on each line of glue like this:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FraXZErI/AAAAAAAAABQ/7q61Efqp2Sc/s1600/m.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_FraXZErI/AAAAAAAAABQ/7q61Efqp2Sc/s320/m.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"> When all the glue has light bulbs it will look like this:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_Fun6QddI/AAAAAAAAABU/EHwGRS2-OAo/s1600/n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_Fun6QddI/AAAAAAAAABU/EHwGRS2-OAo/s320/n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Now use the glue to draw diagonal lines coming out from where each of the two light bulbs meet:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_LBCEseoI/AAAAAAAAABY/d-B8QSosT1E/s1600/o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_LBCEseoI/AAAAAAAAABY/d-B8QSosT1E/s320/o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Put a light bulb on each of these glue lines:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_L1dI7xTI/AAAAAAAAAB4/cLcwfcoSHvc/s1600/p.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_L1dI7xTI/AAAAAAAAAB4/cLcwfcoSHvc/s320/p.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Now you will need to wait for the glue to dry before moving on to the next step. I let mine sit overnight but an hour should be enough so go watch <i>Olive the Other Reindeer</i>. I love that movie! </div><br />
<br />
Next cut and tie a length of ribbon to be used for the hanger.<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_NcQ3EekI/AAAAAAAAAB8/5LEtzym5Fhs/s1600/q.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_NcQ3EekI/AAAAAAAAAB8/5LEtzym5Fhs/s320/q.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">Once the glue is dry enough to flip the disk over without having any light bulb casualties you can attach the hanger. Time for Hot Glue! (Anyone else excited? :-> I thought so!)</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_N1b_F3OI/AAAAAAAAACE/3LqSi7wE0rM/s1600/r.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_N1b_F3OI/AAAAAAAAACE/3LqSi7wE0rM/s320/r.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">Place a small amount of hot glue on the back of the disk making sure it will be hidden by a light bulb when the disk is flipped back over. I am sure you will do a better job than I did.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_OLnuJpvI/AAAAAAAAACI/s1NJaNiWEx0/s1600/s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_OLnuJpvI/AAAAAAAAACI/s1NJaNiWEx0/s320/s.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Add Ribbon:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_OWUBkpYI/AAAAAAAAACM/GxBS5NIWzhM/s1600/t.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_OWUBkpYI/AAAAAAAAACM/GxBS5NIWzhM/s320/t.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Now you have a spiffy new ornament! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_Oo9vXvAI/AAAAAAAAACQ/EFZuZAwzlSc/s1600/u.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_Oo9vXvAI/AAAAAAAAACQ/EFZuZAwzlSc/s320/u.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Hang it on your tree and enjoy!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_O7qXDbqI/AAAAAAAAACU/iGh7_7xY1UU/s1600/v.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_InpUmt7dxp0/TQ_O7qXDbqI/AAAAAAAAACU/iGh7_7xY1UU/s320/v.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
